We provide a full range of general dental practice services for patients of all ages including the oral health needs of children from when the first tooth erupts.

The Health Center is the only safety net dental practice on the Leeward Coast.. About 75% of these visits are patients who are on Medicaid.

The department is located on the main campus in Waianae and consists of 12 operatories. It provides a full range of general dental practice services for patients of all ages including the oral health needs of children. Besides preventive and restorative care, the staff and pediatric providers are trained in nitrous oxide and oral sedation, emergency dental care, space maintenance, and minor interceptive orthodontics.

The Dental Department is actively involved with other organizations to improve health outcomes and service delivery in the community.

A strong believer in prevention and education, the department is also an active partner with local organizations to address oral health needs exhibited by the population. Since 2006, the dental department established school-based services to four elementary schools along the Wai’anae Coast. As of 2024, through the oral health program, the department has expanded its reach to cover the entire Nānākuli to Wai’anae Coast elementary school complex. Services provided through the program include: free oral health screenings, fluoride applications, and comprehensive preventative services that include exams, x-rays, cleanings, and sealants. In addition, the department also partners with local Head Start sites and PACT (Parent and Children Together).

In 2015, a school-based dental site was established at Kamaile Academy to provide comprehensive examinations and preventative services to students and was made possible thanks to startup funding from a City and County of Honolulu grant. In 2023, the outreach program received grant funding from the HDS Foundation to acquire the Centers first dental mobile van, which will allow for increase access to dental services within the community.
